Assistive Technology (AT) can be used from preschool through college to help students access the curriculum.  For general information on AT and IDEA go to the National Assistive Technology Technical Assistance Project (NATTAP).

Early Childhood

AT is just as important for the youngest children with disabilities as it is for older children, adults, and seniors. AT can support exploration, play, and social interaction so young children with disabilities can learn through active participation, just like their peers do. Content includes information about AT for early childhood, about AT consideration for the IFSP and the IEP, links to websites that show how to use AT with children ages birth through preschool, and more.

Any student with a disability can benefit from using AT to support curriculum access, active participation, and task completion. Students with disabilities can benefit from using AT to compensate for skills that have not yet developed completely to prevent falling behind academically, lose self esteem, or give up. The K-12 content includes information about AT across all areas of disability and all levels of student need. It includes information about where AT fits within Response to Intervention (RTI) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as well as AT consideration for the IEP. The content also covers a range of products and devices from low tech and off the shelf, through high tech and special products.

Post Secondary

The content covers AT Assessment as well as a range of products and devices from low tech and off the shelf, through high tech and special products.
